A Solo Visit to Mr Bean Café, Pavilion Bukit Jalil: A Cup of Nostalgia

You can take your time. You can stop whenever you want, take as many photographs as you like, sit quietly without worrying about anyone else, and simply enjoy your own company.

That was how I felt while exploring Pavilion Bukit Jalil on my own.

I wasn’t rushing anywhere. I was just wandering around with my camera, looking forward to finding the Mr Bean Café. There was something quite exciting about finally visiting a place I had been curious about, especially because Mr. Bean had been such a familiar part of my childhood.

When I finally found the café, I already had a little smile on my face.

The café wasn’t very crowded, probably because it had only recently opened. For a solo visitor like me, that actually made it even better. I could take my time exploring without feeling rushed.

The space was cozy and softly lit, with plenty of familiar touches from the Mr. Bean universe.

There was Mr. Bean’s teddy bear, the little yellow Mini Cooper, playful photographs, and different props that immediately brought back memories.

As I walked around alone, I found myself looking at everything through the eyes of the little girl who used to sit in front of the television watching Mr. Bean.

It was funny how a fictional character could bring back such real memories.

Twenty years later, I was sitting in Kuala Lumpur, far away from that old living room in Sri Lanka, but somehow I could still remember those afternoons so clearly.

The café has three main sections: the café area, a photo zone, and a shop filled with Mr. Bean-themed merchandise.

There are also three package options RM79, RM59, and RM25 with different combinations of food, drinks, and souvenirs.

Since I was travelling solo, I decided to keep things simple.

I chose a cup of hot chocolate with the full photo zone experience.

Honestly, it was exactly what I wanted.

My hot chocolate was rich, smooth, and creamy. I found a seat near the window, settled down with my drink, and simply enjoyed the quiet moment.

Outside, people were walking around the shopping mall, while I sat there alone with my cup of hot chocolate.

There was something peaceful about it.

No conversation. No rushing. No need to decide where to go next.

Just me, my camera, a warm drink, and a little corner of Mr. Bean’s world.

And while I was sipping my hot chocolate, my mind naturally went back to those childhood afternoons when I used to watch Mr. Bean while drinking my mom’s homemade Milo.

The drinks were different.....

The place was different....

And I was certainly much older....

But the feeling was surprisingly familiar. 💛

Normally, a themed café like this might make you think about going with friends or family. But I actually enjoyed exploring it alone.

Having my camera with me meant I could take my time finding little details and capturing the parts of the café that caught my attention.

The photo zone is playful and full of Mr. Bean's character, making it a fun place to take photographs.

Going solo also reminded me that I don’t always need someone beside me to enjoy these little experiences.

Sometimes, I can simply take myself somewhere.

I can take photographs, sit with a drink, look around, and enjoy a few quiet hours without needing to share the moment with anyone.

And there is a certain kind of freedom in that.

What I loved most about the Mr Bean Café wasn’t actually the food or the décor.

It was the feeling.

As I walked around, I realized that Mr. Bean is one of those characters who somehow crossed borders and generations. He could make us laugh without needing long conversations or complicated stories.

His silly adventures, his teddy bear, and his little car became part of my childhood memories.

The café captures that feeling beautifully.

The shop area, filled with Mr. Bean merchandise, felt like a tiny treasure chest of childhood memories. Everywhere I looked, there was something familiar enough to make me smile.

For me, this wasn’t simply another café visit.

It felt more like meeting an old childhood friend after many years.

But this little solo trip changed my mind.

There was something lovely about experiencing it at my own pace.

I could sit by the window for as long as I wanted. I could take photographs without feeling embarrassed. I could explore every little corner. And when I wanted to simply sit quietly with my hot chocolate, I could.

Sometimes solo trips don’t have to be about travelling far away or ticking famous destinations off a bucket list.

They can be as simple as taking yourself somewhere new in your own city.

A café.

A shopping mall.

A cup of hot chocolate.

And a few hours spent enjoying your own company.

That can be a solo adventure too.

I went there alone, but I never really felt lonely.

Instead, I spent a few peaceful hours surrounded by memories from a much simpler time in my life. I laughed at the familiar Mr. Bean moments, enjoyed a creamy cup of hot chocolate, took photographs, and allowed myself to slow down for a while.

Maybe that is one of the nicest things about solo trips.

You get to discover places, but you also get to rediscover yourself along the way.

And sometimes, all it takes is a teddy bear, a little yellow car, and a cup of hot chocolate to remind you of the little girl you once were.

For me, Mr Bean Café wasn’t just another place I visited in Kuala Lumpur.

It was a little trip back to my childhood and this time, I took myself there. 🌿💛
