Like everyone, I’ve had dreams since childhood. This time, I’m about to fulfill two of them at once! I’m visiting one of my dream countries, a place I’ve always wanted to go. The most exciting part? It’s going to be my first solo flight!
Flying solo for the first time is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, and my trip from Sri Lanka to Malaysia with AirAsia was just that. Starting at Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport, the journey was full of special moments.
I felt a mix of emotions the whole time.
The Airport Buzz
I’ve traveled through Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) many times before, but this time felt different. From the moment I entered, I had goosebumps. The airport was lively and bustling, with just the right amount of crowd to create an energetic atmosphere. Despite the activity, the immigration process was smooth and quick, making it an easy start to my journey.
As I moved further, the festive Christmas decorations immediately caught my eye.
The airport was beautifully dressed in holiday spirit, and the Christmas tree near the check-in area added a warm, cheerful vibe. It was a lovely sight that made me smile and lifted my mood.
After clearing immigration, I found myself in the duty-free section. The variety of shops and the bustling energy around me added to the excitement. Still, I couldn’t shake off my nervousness, so I decided to grab a coffee. Sitting with my cup in hand, I took a deep breath and let the excitement of the journey ahead sink in.
There’s something truly magical about the moments before a flight. The quiet anticipation, the mix of emotions, and the thrill of starting a new adventure—it’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words but always special.
Onboard with AirAsia
Boarding the flight was smooth and hassle-free, and the friendly smiles from the AirAsia crew instantly made me feel welcome. This was my first time flying with AirAsia, which added an extra layer of excitement to the journey.
As the plane took off into the night sky, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of joy and anticipation. The takeoff was smooth, and soon we were soaring above the clouds, leaving Sri Lanka behind.
For my in-flight meal, I chose a cheese omelet along with a hot Americano.
The meal was simple but satisfying, providing just enough comfort for the journey. However, I did notice that the flight didn’t offer any entertainment options, which made the trip feel a little longer.
To pass the time, I let my thoughts wander, imagining the amazing places we were flying over. I was especially thrilled at the idea of being high above Singapore and Sumatra, two places I’ve always dreamed of visiting. Sadly, since it was nighttime, the skies were dark, and I couldn’t see much from the window.
Even without the views, there was something peaceful about gliding through the quiet night. It gave me a chance to reflect on the journey I was about to begin and appreciate the excitement of flying solo for the first time.
Arrival in Kuala Lumpur
After a smooth landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), I felt a rush of excitement as I prepared to start the next chapter of my journey. The immigration process was quick and hassle-free, which made things much easier.
With a new SIM card in hand and my baggage collected, I was ready to explore the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur. The airport itself was bustling with activity, and I could feel the energy of the city even before stepping outside.
Since my flight landed at the domestic arrival terminal, I didn’t get the chance to explore much of the KLIA duty-free shops. However, the anticipation of what awaited me in the city made up for it.
However, I made sure not to miss out on grabbing a coffee for myself before heading out. Sipping on that warm cup of coffee gave me a moment to pause and soak in the excitement of the trip.
With coffee in hand and a heart full of anticipation, As I walked out of the airport, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity about what this solo adventure would bring. It was the beginning of a new experience, and I was eager to soak in every moment of it.
Reflections on My First Solo Flight
This trip wasn’t just about traveling to another country; it was a journey of growth, independence, and self-discovery. Flying solo for the first time was a big step for me, and it taught me so much about relying on myself and finding joy in the simplest moments.
From the comforting warmth of a cup of coffee to the friendly smiles of strangers, every little experience felt special. I learned to appreciate the thrill of stepping into the unknown and exploring a new place on my own terms.
Traveling solo showed me how empowering it can be to trust myself, make my own decisions, and embrace the unexpected. It wasn’t just about reaching a destination; it was about the journey within, discovering my own strength and confidence along the way.
